Overview
This guide explains how to set up and use a pediatric intraosseous (IO) training model for tibial injection and infusion exercises. These instructions specifically apply to Ultrassist pediatric IO leg trainers, designed to provide hands-on experience for medical students, nurses, EMS personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
The model replicates the tibia and patella anatomy of pediatric patients, allowing learners to practice needle insertion, infusion, and fluid flashback in a safe, controlled environment.
Set-Up Instructions:
Step 1: Loosen (but do not remove) the bone vent cap to allow air to escape during filling.
Step 2: Attach a syringe pre-filled with simulated blood to the trainer.
Step 3: Inject the liquid into the bone. Once fluid emerges from the port, tighten the vent cap.
Step 4: Place the skin cover over the leg.
Step 5: Begin intraosseous injection and infusion practice.
Step 6: After needle removal, seal the puncture site with wax to prevent leakage.
Bone Replacement Instructions:
- Unscrew the bone connector to remove the used tibial insert.
- Insert a new bone and tighten the connector securely to ensure stability.
Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Withdraw remaining fluid using a syringe.
- Flush the bone cavity with clean water multiple times.
- Wipe the trainer surface with water or wet wipes.
- Allow the model to dry completely before storing.
- Keep away from heat and direct sunlight.
Safety Guidelines:
- For simulation use only; do not use on humans or animals.
- Use only the accessories provided with the trainer.
- Keep simulated blood powder out of reach of children and avoid ingestion.
For hands-on pediatric IO practice, learners and instructors can use the Ultrassist Infant Tibial IO Leg Trainer for Injection & Infusion Practice, designed for repeated intraosseous training, including replaceable tibial bones and detachable skin pads.
