TB Skin Test Interpretation

A Mantoux tuberculin skin test is interpreted by measuring the diameter of induration (firm, raised swelling) in millimeters, not the surrounding redness. Interpretation also depends on the individual's risk factors.

• 5 mm or more: Positive for people at highest risk.
• 10 mm or more: Positive for people with certain TB risk factors.
• 15 mm or more: Positive for people with no known TB risk factors.

Important: A Mantoux skin test should be read by a trained healthcare professional 48–72 hours after administration. Measure the widest diameter of induration - not redness.
